Chris,
I need shannon's lab book for biochem... let me know how this can be orchestraed. Is that how you spell orchestraed? Is orchestraed a word?
I was one sick puppy today.

Last night Jeremy made me those oven baked cheesy potatoes but he made them all wrong and they weren't cooked all the way through. I got a page at 1:30 in the morning to go to Ridge and my stomach was in this huge knot. I thought it was just because I was waken up so suddenly. Anyways, the knot got worse and by 4 am, I got nausated. I had to sit up in bed to help the pain, but it's didn't do much good. Imagine a raw potatoe sitting in the middle of your chest and not going anywhere. Not going up or down. When I started having problems breathing because of the pressure, I tried to force myself to throw up but it wasn't working. By 6am, I woke Jeremy up to go to the 24 hour pharmacy to get help. They pharmacist said that inducing vomiting would have been really bad because my stomach was hurting because of zealous production of acid trying to get at those potatoes. She told jeremy to give me some acid reflux medicine and some gas x... that was the pressure and pain I was feeling. So, I took those. 30 mins, an hour, 2 hours, 3 hours passed.... nothing got better. And both the drugs that I took were only labeled to take twice a day. So I called dad and told him to tell everyone that I wasn't comign to Louisville. then, at 10:15, 15 minutes before I went off call, the pager went off. So, I had to go in. on the way in, I thought I was doing alot better. I only realized after I made 4 wrong turns on the way to a place 5 minutes away that I was really sick. By this point, my head hurt really bad because I had only gotten 2 hours of sleep all night.

Finally, about 4, the pressure moved down out of my chest and lower in my stomach. It still hurted, but I wasn't having problems breathing so I was able to go to sleep. Which brings you to this point, after a 3 hour nap. What a horrible day. I hate being sick in general, but not being able to sleep it off was the worse. I thought about sending Jeremy to get some sleep aid stuff just so I could be out of my misery but I figured I shouldn't had insult to injury on my already injured stomach situation.

Moral of the story; potatoe cheesy bakes are evil and simethacone and ranitidine don't work when you have entire potatoes stuck in your stomach.

School is going well. I eat, sleep, study, and work out every day. It is very exhausting. I don't see how people are suppose to gain weight during pharmacy school. There isn't very much time to shove food in your face.

Tuesday Jeremy and I went down to Frankford for our two yaer anniversary. It was very cute.

Other than that, I've been really focused on school. It's going to be alot of work. I actually need to go and read about eye and drug absorbtion before I go into work today. I'll try to get Jeremy to update more because he has more time than I do.

Tomorrow I'm goign to the ville if anyone wants to see me there.

Why is blackboard so freaking slow?

Why am I so tired? I've taken a nap every single day that I've had to go to school whenever I've gotten home. I don't have time for naps; I need to study.

I went and worked out this morning. I didn't so too much, but it was a start.

I came home today to find two new little kittens from the humane society that we are watching. There is one little black kitty that may be the prettiest cat I have ever seen. It has long black hair with little tiny bits of white on its feet. So pretty. Not very social, but pretty. There is another little grey one that actually purrs when you pick it up, so that's a plus. They aren't too hot on the dogs or zippy, but who is whenever you first meet them.

WEll, I'm goign to hit the books.

have a good one all.

Bridal showers ect

I've spent the day in Louisville with my sister doing the bridal shower thing. I got her this really cool shower head that I hope she likes (greg too of course). It was sort of strange being at the shower and not knowing anyone. ALso, I think one of the girls didn't like me from when we were younger. But that's ok because her hair was ugly.

I made cherry cobbler and it was good. I wasn't able to see my parent's new furniture, but I will see it when I come back up next Sunday.

I'm stressed out about the wedding because of those stupid block exams. I have to take 2 tests on the 16th, 2 on the 17th, and then 2 on the 19th. Bec's wedding is on the 17th. Her rehearsal dinner is on the 16th. In Louisville. Far away from Lexington I can't really move the tests earlier without getting screwed. But if I don't move any of the tests I will be letting becca down. I don't know what to do.

I hate it that smart people have such horrible jobs sometimes. Makes you wonder if they are really smart or not.

We had our pledge to professionalism on Friday at some snotty UK alum manision called Spindletop. Jeremy would have freaked out if he saw how the servers were. They were pretty bad. I had to ask like 5 times for a vegetarian meal. And the tea tasted like ass or something weird. I don't know. Maybe it was herbal. It was sort of surreal sitting there. there were 1000 people that applied to UK pharmacy school and I was one of the 130 that were picked. It made me feel alot better about the whole barb thing. I stopped by work to get the pager for Sunday and to talk to some folks there.

Yeah, remember Tuesday when i called out? They sure did throw me a going away/ good luck with school party, with cake and veggie pizza included. Let me tell you how sheepish I felt. After I told everyone why I didn't come in, they understood (they all dislike barb too). I'm glad now that I didn't quit. EVen though barb doesn't think so, Gericare does need me and I would be just screwing over people if I left them. and I don't want to screw those people over.

Becca wants me to get off the computer so she can do her homework. So goodnight all and sweet dreams.

I can't believe I've been updating regularly.

I met my other two profs today and they seem quite nice. It just hit me today that I have nice classes. That seems so strange to me because I'm used to only having four at Transy.

I got my medical center id made today. That means I'm offical.

I walked a gazzillion miles today. Really I did. My legs hurt now. I sat down when i got home and immediately fell asleep. I was really tired.

I went by the Johnson center this afternoon and looked at the facility. Workouts start eaither tomorrow or next week. I have to get into a routine or I'll turn into a fat blob.

I guess I'm going to go an study. good night all.

Wednesday, August 17, 2005

Sorry that I was so dazed when you called mom. I was tired and sort of out of it.

We had to sit and listen to people talk on and on and on today. My legs went numb because I couldn't stretch them out. I met four of my six profs and so far I like them all. They all seem very personable. Oh, and we already have homework for all of them and classes don't offically start until monday. How lame is that?

I think I'm going to bed early tonight. I'm worn out.

Tuesday, August 16, 2005

Zippy is bein gsuper affectionate lately. I don't know what has gotten into him. We took the kittens back to the humane society today. They are getting fixed tomorrow. I hope that they find good homes. They are very good kitties. I think Zippy is missing them.

So, I called into work today. i told them that I was busy with school stuff. Which was sort of true. I spent a good portion of the day going over medical terminology. I'll get up early tomorrow and go over some conversion stuff. I don't when our test will be or how hard it will be.

I stabbed myself with a pair of those little scissors that come in finger nail car kits. It hurt really bad and bleed and now it's all swollen. I hope my finger doesn't fall off.

I still don't know what to do about the job. I guess we'll just see how it plays out. I don't work until I'm on call Sunday. Which I didn't want to be on call, but no one asked me. And I didn't realize that I was scheduled until Saturday and then I forgot to call on Monday and tell someone. Oh well... I'll go to Louisville early on Saturday and spend the day with Becca, maybe even spend the night.

Tomorrow is my first day of school. Jeremy is going to iron my clothes for me. I think I am going to take a change of clothes so I can go by the Johnson center and work out after class. We'll see. I don't know because I think we are getting all of our text books tomorrow, and if I have to lug 11 pharmacy text books to my car, that may be a work out in itself.

I miss the kitties. Jeremy is going to email the director over there to see if we can get another batch. I guess I shoudl go and play old school nitendo with jeremy. He is getting way too cocky for my liking.

Monday, August 15, 2005

I just spent a ton of money on getting dress clothes for school. Ahem, I mean "professional attire." I had a $100 gift certificate from Christmas for Old Navy and then between Jeremy and me we spent another $120 there. After that I went over to Kohl's. The pickings there were slim. But after it was all said and done, I have six new dress shirts and three new pairs of slacks. That should last me for awhile/ At least I won't have to wear the same outfit everyday. I almost bolted when we got in line to check out at Old Navy. I never spend money like that on myself.

Tomorrow we are going to get shoes. we looked at some today but I was wearing jeans and couldn't really judge if they would look nice or not. Jeremy did get another pair of work shoes which he really needed.

CPR was a piece of cake. There were two classes and I was in the last class. WE ended up starting 30 minutes after the first class because everyone needed to finish checking in. American Heast assoication is the same as the american red cross but with more AED stuff. but that may because the class was geared to Health Care Providers. we got done with the class by 1 but I ended up having to wait for other people to get done with their tests because I was double doubled parked by two people. I went over to the kroger that was near there to get a salad but they didn't have a bar. lame.

So, I almost quit my job on Friday. I had my one year review and Barb about ripped me a new one. She said I asked too many questions, that I got distracted by people and that's why I made so many mistakes, that I was defensive when I did make mistakes and that I blamed other people when things were wrong. But when I asked for specific examples, she couldn't give them to me. She didn't give me one "but thank you for the job you are doing." she just said that I had more potenial and I needed to think more at work. All I can say, and sorry for the language, is fuck her.

I started crying of course. And i didn't stop crying until around 2 the next day when i had to go back into work saturday. And i had to leave the pharmacy and go to the bathroom a few times while I was there because I started crying again. I don't think Lynne and Kathy knew what to do and neither did the drivers that day. I didn't talk to them about it because it was really busy and if I started crying I wouldn't be able to stop. It was really bad. my eyes were swollen and I had these huge circles.

Here's my issues:
If I have a question and it will take someone 5 secs to answer because they already know what's going on with the situation, I'm going to ask them instead of wasting 10 mintues of my time looking up the question on the computer, pulling the packing lists, calling the facility, and checking the on order box. I know the pharmacist's time is valuable, but surely me asking if a warfarin is going out next week instead of today does not define me as lazy and stupid.

I don't make that many mistakes. I just don't. And the ones that I do make would be less if I didn't have to fill EVERY SINGLE DRUG that goes out that day. Why is it that we have 7 techs and yet I fill every single thing that goes out? Figure that one out for me. And why is it that I get blamed for not getting things out on time? First of all, it's not my job to make sure deliveries get out on time. It's Craig's job. It's actually in his job discription. And when he has a death in the family and four other techs (not that they would have helped me anyway) leave early, have the day off and/or aren't scheduled, I'm a little stressed. For example, LCP was suppose to leave at 4. I had everything ready to go and was getting the driver to take it out the door. Then Barb says oh wait, let me print out some labels. Some labels end up being 20 or so. Of course, I have to run a fill this and LCP gets out the door 15 minutes late. Barb brings this up in my evalutation and tells me that I should have not filled those orders because they were mediset. First, if she didn't want me to fill those, she shouldn't have told me to wait. 2nd, the last time I tried to leave the mediset stuff for the next day, she told me not to because the corner store needed the stuff in the morning and shouldn't have to wait around for it.

I'm not defensive when I make mistakes. Really, I'm not. I apologize and immediately go and fix it. When I asked barb what I did to give that impression she was like oh, I don't know. you just are.

And finally, if a pharmacist asks me who filled a certain thing, I'm going to tell them. IF they ask me to go fix something, I will. I'm not going to say I filled an order wrong if I didn't. I'm just not. Sorry, not my thing.

I've never felt so unappreicated in my entire life. I think I was in shock. It doesn't matter that I do 10 times that amount of work that they other techs do when I'm at work. It doesn't matter that I am the ONLY person trained at every single tech position. It doesn't matter that I sacrifice my days, nghts and weekends for that damn place and no one can even bother saying thank you for the work I've done in my one year evaluation. It actually made me sick to my stomach. I can't believe that Barb has these blinders on where she only sees the bad when she looks up from her computer screen and never sees the good.

So, why am I staying? Well, when I was leaving Saturday, the last thing that lynne and Kathy said to me was thank you. They said thank you for me being there. Tomorrow is my last day working at the pharmacy with barb. then I am only working saturday and on call a few nights a week.

I also got a 45 cent raise. the money isn't the issue though. On a scale of 1 to 5, 5 being the highest, barb gave me 3's and 2's. I didn't deserve that. I got one 5 in attendence and a 4 in safety. I'm calling in tomorrow. Might as well, I don't want me average to be pulled up too much. I don't know. I still might quit.

Something to think about...

Men defined.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A man wanted to get married. He was having trouble choosing among
three likely candidates. He gives each woman a present of $5,000 and
watches to see what they do with the money.

The first does a total make over. She goes to a fancy beauty salon
gets her hair done, new make up and buys several new outfits and
dresses up very nicely for the man. She tells him that she has done
this to be more attractive for him because she loves him so much.

The man was impressed.

The second goes shopping to buy the man gifts. She gets him a new
set of golf! clubs, some new gizmos for his computer, and some
expensive clothes As she presents these gifts, she tells him that
she has spent all the money on him because she loves him so much.

Again, the man is impressed.

The third invests the money in the stock market. She earns several
times the $5,000. She gives him back his $5000 and reinvests the
remainder in a joint account. She tells him that she wants to save
for their future because she loves him so much.

Obviously, the man was impressed.

The man thought for a long time about what each woman had done with
the money he'd given her.

Then, he married the one with the biggest boobs.

Men are like that, you know.

There is more money being spent on breast implants and Viagra today
than on Alzheimer's research. This means that by 2040, there should
be a large elderly population with perky boobs and huge erections
and absolutely no recollection of what to do with them

A post by Chris

Hey guys :) This is the first day I've been able to get on the internet on my computer. I forgot my wireless adapter at home and just got back from going to Lex to get it. We're mooching off (ie, stealing) an unencrypted wireless signal that's floating around our building until we get our own set up. The Insight guy was supposed to have called by now, but he hasn't. I've had my PDA that all the med students get for a while now, and it has wireless access, but typing a post on a small screen by tapping letters with a stylus would have been less than efficient.

Anyway, I'm doing well. My roommate is a really nice guy and we've got along well (he's a fellow 1st year). Lissa was here this weekend so that was nice. She was here last weekend too.

Our place is just about set up. We drove to this Japanese guys house yesterday to respond to an ad he had posted to sell a couch. It's a pretty decent couch for the $60 I paid for it. I just wish it had been a little smaller. We spent a good 40 minutes hauling the thing up to the third floor where my apartment is, trying to dodge wooden beams, walls, corners, etc in 105 degree heat, only to find out it won't clear the kitchen door and make the turn into the apartment and that it needs to be taken allthe way back down and around the front way. An hour later, couch safely inside and miraculously without any damage, we decided we're taking an axe to it when we move out rather than go through that mess again.

Our shower pressure is bitchin'! It almost hurts if you stand under it the wrong way, which is awesome. I was afraid they'd have some stupid low flow head. (sorry for the b word, Mrs. J, there's just no other way to adequately describe it)

I think I'm just about done pre-reading/studying for tomorrow's Gross Anatomy class. I'm going to look over Embryology and Histo before I go to bed, but Gross is the one you really have to stay prepared for. Tomorrow (the first day of classes) we'll get our cadavers and make the first cuts. I know it sounds awful, but I'm secretly hoping I don't end up with a morbidly obese subject. There's a lot more work involved.

Virginia and Jeremy, you have to come see my place when it's all set up (and don't forget, you promised me a box of tissues, Virginia :) )

Howl at the Moon, the piano bar on 4th street is one of my new favorite places. Maybe I'll go every other Thursday or something like that for a nice little break. They have dollar drinks on Thursday. I'm on a budget :)

That's all for now. I'm gonna flip through some more stuff. Land O' Lakes American cheese from Kroger deli is delicious.

Chris,
we miss you and hope you are doing good. :(

Tuesday, August 09, 2005

Zippy had his follow up appointment today and although his ears were a little dirty, he was good to go. He has his good ole meow back too.

I went down to the KY clinic to get my vaccinations today. I was a little bothered that the nurse who did them didn't wear gloves, nor did she alchol the area she was giving the shots at. So, of course, I was none to happy when she said "OH NO" after giving me my hep b shot and I look over to she my arm squiting blood. I would have thought she hit an artery but I know there aren't any arteries in that part of my arm. So, because of the above mentioned thing about her not wearing gloves, she threw a wad of cotton swaps at me to stop the bleeding. And then hands me a latex bandaid. of course, I had already told her that I was allergic to latex. Apparently she didn't care because my allergies don't cause problems breathing, just a rash, pain and itching. I actually had to ask for some alcohol swaps on the way out to clean off the dried blood that was all over my arm. By the time I got out to that parking garage, my arm had a bandaid sharped rash on it. Go figure.

Jeremy and I went to the farmer's market and got a punch of goodies and then we came home and he made us tomato sandwiches.

School starts soon. ick.

Sunday, August 07, 2005

we got our first two tomatoes off the vine. they are still a little orange but we are very excited. Jeremy says he counted 23 more on the plant. :)

Siamese kittens sure are snobs.

Kathy Griffin is really funny.

Wednesday, August 03, 2005

Zippy had blood on his fur yesterday afternoon. So we took him to the vet and $500 later, they can't find anything wrong with him. He no longer has blood in his feces and besides a little gas, he has a clean bill of health. Needless to say, after losing two kittens already, I was a little freaked out. But he's eating and drinking and being his same ole Zippy self, although somewhat more indignant. I think that's because he had to spend the afternoon at the vet again today for observation.

We are having another poker game tomorrow night at our house for the people at Jeremy's work. Should be fun. Hopefully.

Did I mention that we have two cantaloupes in our garden? I'm very excited. the biggest one looks liek a little green football.

Tomorrow I;m getting my hep b vaccination. I finally got my records after harassing pediatric associates for the past month. Way to never return a chick's phone calls.

I can't believe that school is just around the corner. I'm pretty freaked out and I have the sores in my mouth to prove it. The doctor gave me medicine for them, but it's ulcer medicine for your stomach and it's REALLY nasty to gargle ulcer medicine. She gave me two refills on it too for finals too when they come up. It's sad that I have to play ahead for stress. Oh well.

Laters everyone and have a wonderful night.
