I don't have much time to write because I have to be at the VA at 8, and then after that I have to go into CVS to work until 9 because Rebekah called in sick. Then tomorrow morning I work again at the VA and then I have to run over to Kelly's house to check on her cats, and then I have to drive to Ashland.

I talked to a lady at my rotation finally yesterday. Apparently, my preceptor is like never there, and she told me that last month's intern (who was a first year) only worked Tues,Wed, and Thurday from 9 to 5, and she said I was more than welcome to do the same schedule. although that would be extremely kick ass for me, I'm still going to try and put in 40 hours and make the best of the rotation, because I really do want to get the most out of my internship. I may end up doing this for the rest of my life, so I might at well learn it now, rather than be pressured to learn it after the fact.

I have to work at CVS tonight from 6 until 10. it seems like I haven't worked there is forever, just because my days have been completely full of UK. I know that I am going to be exhausted. I haven't stayed up until 10 it seems like all this month. I'm going to be barely awake on my feet. hopefully, Clay is working and he will let me go early.

Happy Birthday CHRISTY!!!!!!

Thursday, May 22, 2008

It's Thursday, but it has been one of those very busy weeks where I don't seem to know exactly what day it is at any given time. it's been very busy. I have to work tomorrow, then I have Saturday off. We were going to go strawberry picking, but because it has been so cold, the strawberries won't be ready until two more weeks.

I have been reading War and Peace and it is ridiculous how many words I have to look up in the dictionary because I don't know them. but, it is a pretty good book once you get past the first 100 pages and get all the characters straight in your head.

Sunday, I am post call at UK, so I will be there most of the day. then, I was suppose to have Monday off because of the holiday, but I am going in to work to make up for the two days that I had to miss so that I could get trained for the VA, which ended up being a complete waste of time.

Turtle is sitting on Jeremy's lab and looking super cute.

today was my first day of work at the VA. I think that I am really going to enjoy it. I only stayed for 5 hours because I couldn't do much without a log in and stuff.

then I came home and took a really long nap. I didn't realize how sleep deprived I am. then I got up, and headed out to CVS to get my check and allergy medicine.

we are watching a friend's dog while she is in a conference. her name is Hallie Berry and we've watched her before. the dogs were alittle growly when they met, but we will keep an eye on them.

our neighbors are moving, the ones that we actually like. they were able to sell their house; grantly $9K less than they wanted to, but they were willing to take it because of the market and considering our neighborhood has really gone down hill in the past couple of years.

and apparently the neighbors on the back side who we hate because their dogs always bark have hired a dog training company to teach their dogs how to not bark. that is amazing in my book. it just took them a year to not be dickheads.

I did training at the VA on Monday and Tuesday, and then today when I went into my rotation, it was super slow. and that is amazing because I've never had time just to sit and catch up on my reading.

I'm not so impressed with the VA. the people who did the orientation earlier this week weren't too bright. But, it was an easy two days, and I got paid $33 an hour for it, so I really can't complain.

And I needed something to be easy. I had a REALLY bad time on Saturday at UK. I was slightly overwhelmed because I was all by myself postcall and it was a horrible experience. But, hopefully, it will not happen again in the future.

I am post call again tomorrow. And I will be getting up at 4:3o to work patients up because we are rounding at 7:30. next week will be even worse because we will have a new attending that does rounds at 6:30.

I am ready for this rotation to be over, although I dread going to Ashland for the entire month of June.

And by the way, CVS sucks. I've been getting paid $13/hr for the past year, which is $1 off what the other 3rd year interns are getting. I figured this out in September, and have been mentioning it ever since then and I was told for the past year that it would be taken care of. Anyway, I finally reported my store manage to his boss' boss, and they turned in my hours for Todd's road. $500 bucks. isn't that ridiculous. And then I got a letter in the mail from corporate because confirming my hours for the past year because part of the reason I reported the store manager was because he made the comment that I would get reimbured 100 hours at 50 cents an hour and that really pissed me off. So I requested documentation of how my back pay was going to be calculated. So, I got the letter, and apparently I worked something like 695 hours in the past year, but my store manager didn't catch it because I floated to so many stores this summer. so, basically, I'm still getting screwed out of another $200. CVS really does suck as a company.

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thursday, May 08, 2008

hi all,
yes, you are reading the time stamp correctly. it is almost 3 in the morning. I was nicely woken up about an hour ago because of my allegies, and my medicine has yet to kick in.

And my mind was racing with all my patients that I have tomorrow. And yes, they are MY patients. 100% because my preceptor who is suppose to be responsible for them has been rounding with the cardio unit all this week while the 2 cardiologist pharmacists were out of town. Needless to say, by yesterday, I was convinced I was having an ulcer. It is ridiculous how whack my service's meds are.

Anyways, back to my point. It is so weird how my mind is working while I am asleep. I haven't been dreaming about my patients; I don't think I've been going to REM sleep. But I've worken up every single night this week and released something huge medicine wise, and it's been serious enough for me to pop wide awake and think "oh shit, how did I miss that?". Which then leads me to lay awake for at least an hour pondering everything I have to do in the morning and forcing myself to engrave it in my brain so when i really do wake up for the day, it's still there.

Well, the blog is open back up. I think I am going to still make some more changes, but I'm too tired to work on it anymore tonight. I'm tired.
5/1/08

yesterday I spent the day with my mom. she had surgery, so I got up with Jeremy super early and we drove to Louisville. he was able to work after he dropped me off at Jewish hospital.

I got a bunch of books from my mom for me to read. I'm going to try and hit all the classics this year.

today is the first day of my first rotation and I'm super nervous. I don't know what I need to take. I don't have my drug information handbook. I think I let Amanda beckman borrow it, then she never gave it back to me. but, I ordered another one earlier this week from Amazon, but I havne't even gotten an email that they have sent it yet.

I am wearing new shoes, new pants, new undies, and a new shirt. I would be wearing a new bra, but I accidently left my gift card at home. which is good, because I thought that I accidently dropped it in the store and some shady person stole it. my faith in humanity is restored. ask me about it after my first day of rotations.

i need to go pack my lunch and find my med center id and try to poop. I also need to pack a workout bag so I can try to hit the gym after I'm done today. maybe we will get out early.

later on:

My first rotation day went well, although I am super tired. I wish that I coudl force myself to go workout, but I could barely get myself to walk to the car this afternoon when I got off. I am one tired puppy, like always. In other news, I am really enjoying the book I am reading; it's one my Maeve Binchy. I think she is one of my top 10 favorite authors.

4/27/08

last night was one of the best nights ever. I laughed so hard it was ridiculous. I was one tired puppy when I got home.

I was able to talk to Krista about the VA yesterday, so that was good. I have to work today again from 10 until 3 and then I work on Tuesday from 10 to 6 and then I don't have any idea when I'll be able to work.

I have to look up some herbal interactions for a person at work. I can't find my drug information handbook anywhere. I think I'm going to buy a new one. my addition is old anyway

4/25/08

I have been busy busy busy.

I had to go get a physical exam this morning for the VA. sorta a strange, but at least now I know that I don't have any weird muscle disoders.

Before I left, I cleaned up the living, swept the kitchen, and figured out my outfit tonight for white coat ceremony. Then, when I got back home, I cut the grass, weedate (hehe), finished vacuuming, swept the entrance ways, cleaned the bathroom, wiped the counters, cleaned the patio doors, spray out the dog's crate and.... I think that's it. I'm one tired puppy. my hands are in bad shape too. I went on a sewing spree yesterday and mending a ton of things that needed it. I even fixed maybe's chair that was all gross and stuff. I used a canvas bag to patch it, and when Jeremy got him, he thought I had bought a new chair:) Anyways, I poked myself like 10 times with the needle, then today I cut my pinkie on a can that I was putting into recycling and then I pricked my thumb when I was out trimming the rose bush. I'm glad I got my tetanus shot updated last month:)

2/24/08

I AM DOOOOONNNNNNEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I took my last final this morning. And I got donuts and juice for the entire class.

so surreal.

I'm going to go read a book outside and be a complete bum because I have nothing to do! except clean the house.

4/22/08

did I ever mention that I dislike my neighbors? they are the poop on your shoe that you can't get out of the cracks.

I think I may have come out on the short end of the stick on a deal I made with Jeremy. I have to wash the dishes for a month. Maybe I'll just wait until the end of the month to start... nah. I'll be a good little house wife.

I was sitting outside studying, and when I came back in to do a phone interview that I ended up not doing, I notice this bug crawling on me that sorta freaked me out. He looks sorta like a mix between a lady bug and a tick and I ended up trapping him under the end of my highligher. ewww.

Can I even imagine how crazy busy this next year is going to be? I have to work at the VA the two months that I have off, as well as every other weekend. some of my rotations I will also have to work on the weekends. And, I'm still trying to figure out how to squeeze CVS into the mix in case the VA thing doesn't work out. So I have to pick up a shift there at least every two weeks. I told them I was applying for the Valor Program, and that is was an honors type of thing, but I didn't mention that it was a paid position (~$30/hr). CVS is sending out their contracts in September; residency matches aren't until March. I don't know what to do. I hate playing on CVS. maybe I will just talk to Krista about it.
